Competitive Ads and Services
The following is from the Adsense Programs and Policies page, which acts to clarify and expand on the dense legalese found in the ToS.
We do not permit Google ads or search boxes accessing Google search services to be published on web pages that also contain what could be considered competing ads or services. If you have elected to receive contextually-targeted Google ads, this would include all other contextually-targeted ads or links on the same page as Google ads. This would also include ads throughout the site that mimic Google ads or otherwise appear to be associated with Google on your site. Although you may sell ads directly on your site, it is your responsibility to ensure these ads do not mimic Google ads. If you have elected to receive Google search services, this would include other search services on the same site and non-Google query-targeted ads. We do allow affiliate or limited-text links.
Yahoo Publisher Network
Good:
- can specify ad type and category.
- ad formats match Google's so easy to swap in and out
- easier to create code and channels (aka reporting categories)
- RSS feed ads
- terms and conditions are easier to read
- seems to contextualize the ads quickly
Bad:
- no live updating of performance, you are a day behind
- no link units
- no search boxes
- poor inventory so few relevant ads on niche sites (or it could be my lack of patience for the YPN bot to crawl the site, if there is such a bot)
- US publishers only
Yahoo Sponsored Search are switching over to a new interface soon, so maybe things will get a lot better for us in YPN as far as volume and quality of ads. Having a minimum bid of 10c may discourage some advertisers too.
Yahoo is now taking into account ad and landing page quality when it comes to ranking ads.
Stop Bounce
Once a site has 400 visitors a day, then use Stop Bounce to get 1c for everyone who hits the back button. The visitor is then presented with a page of ad links.
IntelliTXT
To qualify for IntelliTXT advertising campaigns your website must receive 500,000 page views per month. IntelliTxt is from Vibrant Media .
Google has said:
"According to our program policies, Kontera and Intellitxt ads may not be displayed on the same page as Google ads on your site. However, you
are welcome to display those ads on pages of your site that do not
include Google ads."
SmartAD is a type of IntelliTXT chosen by category, and this MAY possibly not infringe the Adsense ToS.
LinkWorth
Linkworth is an ad broker.
Chitika and AdBrite
Chitika and AdBrite. It violates the Adsense ToS if the ads are served based on the content on your
page rather than the keywords you enter in AdBrite or the category you select in Chitika's mini-mall.
Chitika's Javascript for eMiniMalls doesn't work in Firefox, and instead it serves up vanilla flavored Adsense style ads, so you could be in violation of Adsense's ToS on Firefox only because of "mimickry".
Chitika also has Related Products Unit (aka RPU) which appear to be contextual ads.
